NHS offers free eye tests to individuals who fall under certain conditions. Here are some conditions you must check to qualify for the NHS Free Eye test.
Individuals under 16 years of age
Individuals with age of 16, 17 or 18 and in full-time education (this includes being taught full-time at a school, college, university or at home)
Individuals of 60 or over
Registered as partially sighted or blind
Individuals diagnosed with diabetes or glaucoma
Individuals aged 40 or over and your mother, father, sibling or child has been diagnosed with glaucoma
Been advised by an eye doctor (ophthalmologist) that you're at risk of glaucoma
Prisoner on leave from prison
Eligible for an NHS complex lens voucher – your optician can advise you about your entitlement
Individuals or their partners, including civil partners or under the age of 20 and the dependant of someone receiving:
Income Support
Income-based Employment and Support Allowance
Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
Pension Credit Guarantee Credit
Universal Credit and meet the criteria
If you are entitled to or named on any of the following, you may qualify:
A valid NHS tax credit exemption certificate: If you don't have the certificate, you can present your award notice. Eligibility applies if you receive Child Tax Credits, Working Tax Credits (with a disability element or both), and your income for tax credit purposes is £15,276 or less.
A valid NHS certificate for full help with health costs (HC2).
An NHS certificate for partial help with health costs (HC3): This may also provide assistance with the cost of a private sight test.
How to get NHS glasses voucher?
As we already mentioned, the NHS has criteria for people to fulfil to be eligible for the vouchers. NHS vouchers help people with the cost of buying glasses if they fall under the given rules:
Individuals under 16 years of age
